Transition to Work

My daughter, Molly Atkins, attends Transition to Work in Bomaderry. I have high regard for the service EET provides my daughter, who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Bi-Polar a number of years ago. When we moved to Jervis Bay (I am her sole carer) it was recommended that we contact your group to support Molly with her disability. She receives a Disability Pension and has now been accepted for NDIS services. I should add that without the hard yards put in by EET staff to achieve NDIS status her future could have been a lot more uncertain.

Molly is socially withdrawn and the change I saw in her following the interaction of the staff at Bomaderry was amazing. Whereas she was totally withdrawn she enjoys every day in your program. Would you please pass on my congratulations to Edward and his staff who are totally dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for the people in their care. This level of commitment is rare and needs to be recognised.

Since I started at Essential Employment and Training’s (EET) Transition to Work (TTW) Program in 2013 I have gained more confidence and independence. The program has enabled me to gain new skills and knowledge e.g. Interview and phone skills. I have received my Certificate 1 in Employability Skills: Becoming a Worker and I’m currently completing a Certificate III OTEN TAFE course in Education Support.
I have been successfully placed in various work placements due to the hard work and dedication of the Transition to Work Coordinator and Trainers. During my time here, I have received excellent support and encouragement by the TTW Trainers.
I am grateful for being given the opportunity to be involved with such a great program. The program gives young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities the help they need to achieve their goals.

Melissa T – TTW Client

In 2013 my daughter Melissa started attending Essential Employment and Training, Transition to Work program. In her first year she gained a Certificate 1 in Employability Skills: Becoming a Worker. During her time at TTW, the staff assisted Melissa in completing a Certificate III in Education Support through OTEN TAFE. The TTW staff provided a positive atmosphere where Melissa felt she could achieve her goals. The skills she gained allowed her to become a confident young lady and have the belief she could overcome any obstacle.

The TTW staff enabled her to achieve work placement at multiple primary and high schools throughout the Illawarra. At the beginning of 2014, the TTW coordinator Mary Heriot organised Melissa to do a work trial at Corpus Christi Catholic High School. Melissa was successful in her trial and was offered a casual position as a school support officer. She was ecstatic with the outcome as it would be her first paid employment. The encouragement and support from the TTW staff allowed Melissa to gain new opportunities. As her time is coming to an end at TTW she has made wonderful friendships, learnt important skills that will assist her in the work place and life. Thank you to all TTW staff for their dedication and commitment in helping my daughter achieve her employment goals.
