Essential Employment and Training (EET) specialises in working with young school leavers with physical and emotional barriers, who are experiencing personal challenges to achieving employment. Our Youth Employment Program (YEP) seeks to assist highly disadvantaged young school leavers with disabilities by providing 1:1 mentoring and support.

YEP supports each individual school leaver in their personal development journey towards employment and future career aspirations.  Our specialised staff consult with each person to develop their own individual employment pathway plan (EPP). Their plan details specific job seeking and/or education and training activities that assist them to achieve their employment goals and aspirations, in the industry of their choice.

Each person’s EPP identifies the skills and experiences needed to gain and maintain employment and details the mutually agreed actions to achieve this.

Areas of focus:

  • Communication skills
  • Building relationships
  • Building resilience
  • Planning and undertaking proactive job seeking
  • Developing job applications
  • Gaining and accessing work experience
  • Accessing  further education and training

Our dedicated staff work alongside these young people taking an individualised and person-centred approach to address any barriers they are experiencing so they can ultimately succeed in gaining employment. In the past two (2) years more than 120 young people have gained employment through this program.

Kobie’s a High Achiever

Kobie joined our Transition to Work program in 2013 and achieved a great deal in his 2 years, including gaining his driver’s licence and completing Certificate II in Detailing and Dismantling at TAFE. Kobie then moved to our Youth Employment Program (YEP) where he was supported in obtaining a full Mechanics Apprenticeship with Corban’s Automotive. Our staff were really impressed by Kobie’s attitude and commitment to succeed so they entered him in to the NSW Young Achiever Awards. As you can see from the photos, the nomination was successful and Kobie attended the function with his family and Keith from EET. Kobie deserves all the good things that are coming his way and we wish him all the best.

Kim’s Scholarship

Kim (on left) had reason to celebrate recently when she received a scholarship from the Smith Family to further her studies at TAFE or University this year. Kim has been a loyal client who is great to work with, EET know how much this means to her and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving. Well done Kim!

Ernest kicks another Goal

Ernest is a client of our Youth Employment Program (YEP) in Wollongong. Ernest recently completed a 3 day work inspiration course through The Smith Family Partnership Brokers & VISA (Visual Industries Suppliers Association). We’d like to congratulate Ernest on gaining a Statement of Attainment for his efforts & thank the other parties involved.
